As an undergraduate participant the Polaris Project has afforded me many opportunities to learn about and research the Arctic. But in addition to that, the Polaris Project has helped me clarify my career goals and set me on a path towards achieving them. This December I had the opportunity to attend the American Geophysical Union fall meeting and present a poster on my research from this summer with the Polaris Project. Over 20,000 scientists attended the conference in San Francisco. Also attending the conference were Polaris students Seth Spawn, Peter Ganzlin, Eric Taber, and Kelsey Dowdy. We went to talks and poster sessions on anything from Arctic biogeochemistry to planetary science. Many of us also met with potential employers and graduate school advisers. We capped off the week with a reunion dinner with half a dozen Polaris PI’s and affiliates. The conference was a great chance to share my research, network, and learn about cutting-edge Arctic science.
