The Polaris Project had an information and recruitment booth at the recent SACNAS conference in San Jose, California. The mission of SACNAS, the Society for the Advancement of Native Americans and Chicanos in Science, is to encourage Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees in science. The booth was staffed by Polaris 2011 alumni Michael Melendez and Juan Carlos Ortega Sanchez, SACNAS members from Puerto Rico. We are eager to see the applications for Polaris 2012 that are generated from this exposure.
