The Polaris Project has headed north from Cherskiy to spend ~12 days at a remote tundra field site.  The way north is via the Kolyma River – they’ve headed downriver and stopped a bit short of the Arctic Ocean.  The group is living on the Barge at this remote site, and has several different boats to move around the region.  They are studying many different aspects of the carbon balance of the Siberian tundra, with the big picture goal being to better understand the likely fate of ancient permafrost carbon as the Arctic warms.  Communications from this remote site are challenging, but I’ll periodically relay updates as I get them.  And the group may also manage to get some blog posts out by sending information back to the field station in Cherskiy.
