Thanks for the photos. That flora is really amazing.
PS The more correct translation of puppy's name would be "Buddy".

Hi, Kate!
I'm just back home in Oakland, California from my 60th high school reunion in Yakima, where I grew up. While there, I did some trout fishing, and decided to return to a spot on the Rattlesnake Creek in the Nile Valley above Naches. The spot is a couple of miles off the paved road, beside the river. Years ago I would drive there on a dirt road and fish up- and downstream. This time I found that the road is blocked by a gate about halfway to the stream, so I hiked the rest of the way to the water. To my surprise, there were several modern structures on the spot I used to drive to, a bridge across the Rattlesnake there, and a building on the other bank! There's a large "Polaris" sign on the grounds. I'm not familiar with the organization, and I couldn't find anyone in the vicinity who knows anything about it. I'm curious, and wondering if it's your Polaris group that's connected with the facility. Obviously, I got your note when I googled "Polaris".
If the place is connected to your Polaris project, please tell me about the group and what goes on at the Rattlesnake Creek site; I'll appreciate it. Thank you!

The death toll from fires in Russia tends to be much higher than for forest fires in Australia and California. Also there are often reports in the local press of people being left to cope with fires unaided by the authorities until homes have burnt to the ground.
